Immigrants and Labor
Program Update:
Congressman Simpson Unable to Attend Thursday Forum
Due to the critical House votes related to repening the government, Congressman Mike Simpson will remain in Washington DC and will be unable to speak at this Thursdays City Club event as was planned. We appreciate your understanding and will keep you informed of any future opportunities to hear from the Congressman.
If you would like a refund, please email us as soon as possible at info@ifcityclub.com. We need to confirm lunch numbers with our caterer by 4:00 p.m. today, and refunds cannot be issued after that deadline.
This should still be a great panel discussion. Come listen and Learn!
Thank you again for your understanding.
Migrant Labor and Idaho’s Economy: Challenges and Choices
City Club of Idaho Falls invites you to a timely panel discussion on the essential role of foreign-born labor in Idaho agriculture. Drawing on findings from the McClure Center for Public Policy’s 2024 study. Idaho relies on tens of thousands of unauthorized immigrants—35,000 in 2021—mostly in agriculture and construction. While they fill labor gaps, their presence raises questions about enforcing immigration laws, protecting jobs for legal residents, and ensuring fair wages. This conversation will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping Idaho’s workforce and economy.
Policymakers face tough choices about how to balance economic needs with the rule of law and Idaho families’ interests.
The program will still proceed with Rick Naerebout, CEO of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association, and Zak Miller, CEO of the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation — will share perspectives from two of Idaho’s largest agricultural sectors.
