Migrant Labor and Idaho’s Economy: Challenges and Choices
City Club of Idaho Falls invites you to a timely panel discussion on the essential role of foreign-born labor in Idaho agriculture. Drawing on findings from the McClure Center for Public Policy’s 2024 study. Idaho relies on tens of thousands of unauthorized immigrants—35,000 in 2021—mostly in agriculture and construction. While they fill labor gaps, their presence raises questions about enforcing immigration laws, protecting jobs for legal residents, and ensuring fair wages. This conversation will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping Idaho’s workforce and economy.
Policymakers face tough choices about how to balance economic needs with the rule of law and Idaho families’ interests.
Our panelists — Rick Naerebout, CEO of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association, and Zak Miller, CEO of the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation — will share perspectives from two of Idaho’s largest agricultural sectors.
